Content is one of the first thing web crawlers index. What they are doing is analyzing the words within the context of the website. Google, for example, strives to provide the most relevant search results. So, they send out web crawlers to index websites searching for specific words relevant to any given topic. When a web crawler is indexing your website, they are searching for keywords, and keyword density. Keyword density is one of the key factors in determining the relevancy of a website. In theory, the more a keyword is use the more relevant it is. However, balance is crucial. Overuse of keywords or keyword stuffing is a tactic that can land you into some hot water with Google. It can be deemed and manipulative, and Google takes this very seriously.



Web crawlerImages are important to your website. They help strengthen your content and boost engagement. However, images in and of themselves are not indexed by web crawlers without proper alt tags. Alt tags appear as text when you hover over an image. Without alt tags your images will not be seen by web crawlers. Alt tags can be altered when you upload and image or when you enter the image edit menu. Alt tags provide the perfect place to use your keywords.


Title Tags

Title tags are anther area that web crawler index. Title tags are in place to tell web crawlers what you page is about, and web crawlershould invite them to index your website. Title tags appear at the top of the webpage in the tab of your browser. This is another place that should be optimized with your keywords.



Links are also an important factor when web crawlers index a page. Inbound external links help tell web crawlers how relevant a page is. Inbound links should be of good quality and generated organically. You can do this by including links to your website on all of your social media and local directory sites. Exchanging links with your networking partners is also a great way to do some quality link building. Just remember that if it doesn’t seem natural, then it isn’t a quality link. Exponential link growth can be deemed as unnatural and therefor a punishable offense by Google. Just like with keywords, do it, but use your better judgement.
