 stay cool all summer long

With the warmest months ahead of us many of us will be looking for ways to fight the heat and stay cool all summer long. With water conservation regulations still in place in many parts of the country, you may have to get creative in order to stay cool all summer long. Here are some tips to help you stay cool all summer long.

Cover Your Pool

If you have a pool then you know that when temperatures rise, so do evaporation rates. You may find yourself having to refill your pool more often during the warmer months of summer, which can interfere with state mandated conservation rules. To bypass this, invest in a pool cover. By covering your pool, you reduce the amount of water that is evaporated, keep debris out of your pool, and also keep your pool at a warmer temperature, if you regularly heat your pool this will help you cut down on your energy costs as well.

Adjust Watering Schedule

If you have a yard that requires regular watering, you can conserve water by adjusting your watering schedule. Set timers for sprinklers early in the morning before the sunrises. This enables thorough saturation, less evaporation, and stay cool all summer longdiscourages bugs looking to get a drink during the peak hours of the day. The more thorough the ground saturation the more effective your watering will be, which means you will have to water less. In addition, many municipalities are still requiring only watering schedules that allow for only 2 to 3 days of watering each week. Contact your local water district to find out if there is a yard watering schedule in place in your area.

Check for Leaks

Leaks are pesky things, and can go undetected which leads to unnecessary waste. Be proactive when it comes to lead detection. Check all around the house, under sinks, faucets, shower heads, toilets, water supply lines, pool equipment, and sprinkler systems. Repair any leaks right away to help you conserve water.

Adjust Your Thermostat

You would be surprised how much energy you can conserve by adjusting your thermostat 10 degrees. By setting your thermostat for 75 degrees you can still stay cool all summer long, and save energy. Some other tips that will help keep you home cooler:

  • Install ceiling fans; ceiling fans are known to adjust room temperatures by 10 degrees or more!
  • Invest in thermal curtains; thermal curtains are ideal for proper insulation. They keep the cool air in and prevent warm air from penetrating and vise versa during the winter time.
  • Check your home for any air leaks. Check areas like attics, crawlspaces, and areas around pipes that are entering the home. If there is an opening cool air can get out, and warm air can get in. You should also check your windows and doors for weather proofing, grommets can wear down over time making your home less efficient.
