Google is known for shaking up the digital marketing world with its algorithm updates. The most famous of these updates being Panda in 2011, and Penguin in 2012. Since Panda and Penguin made their debut, a lot of things changed for online marketers. We had to adjust the way we optimized our websites and the way we built links. Fast forward 6 years and there has been a whole onset of updates, some minor some major. The mobile update of 2015 was the last Google Algorithm update that was supposed to really shake things up. Also known and mobilegeddon, the mobile update was designed to push only pages that were mobile friendly to the top of search results. This primarily google algorithm updateaffected websites who did not convert for mobile users. Many websites not automatically convert for mobile users. This is not only good for search, but also expands your visibility, as most search in now conducted on mobile devices. If you are unsure if your website converts, try pulling it up on your own mobile device. Making the switch is relatively easy, content your web administrator if you are unsure about how to do this.

In an effort to produce more relevant search results, Google is taking into account the location of where the search is being performed, and populating results with the most relevant and localized listings. This is where local SEO comes into play. For businesses trying to rank, they need to include located specific keywords into their SEO strategy and content strategy. The Possum update provides better more relevant search results for users and also better-quality leads for business, if they can leverage their geo specific keywords.
