Central Air Conditioners vs Heat Pumps

September 26th, 2016

Guest Blog Post From H&H

Guest Blog Post From H&H Heating and Air Conditioning

Understanding heating and cooling units can be extraordinarily frustrating for homeowners. With so many kinds of systems all housed within large, non-descript metal boxes, it’s easy to become confused, particularly with regard to central air conditioners and heat pumps. Whether you’re simply looking to identify yours for service-related questions, or to replace an antiquated system, read-on to discover the differences between these stymying styles…

Face-Off: The Differences between Central Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps
Though both central air conditioners and heat pumps are powered by outdoor systems that utilize refrigerant and specific mechanical components to transfer thermal energy from one place to another, and both also transport and distribute conditioned air through your home via ductwork, they are not the same.

  • Central Air Conditioners

    • Standout difference: These systems only provide air.

    • How they work: Air conditioners utilize refrigerant to shuttle heat, transferring it to cooled air with the help of the evaporator coil.

    • Efficiency equation: More efficient than room air conditioners, central systems offer summer cooling for less in upfront costs than heat pumps, and are an especially good option if you already have an efficient heat source.

    • Climate conundrum: If you live in cold climate, you may need a separate heat source. In addition, in humid conditions, central air conditioners may not achieve low humidity, especially if oversized, effecting comfort.

    • Types: Central air conditioners come in split-types, in which the outside metal box contains the condenser and compressor and indoor cabinet contains the evaporator, and packaged systems, in which all components are housed in a single outdoor cabinet.

  • Heat Pumps

    • Standout difference: These systems provide both air and heat, for year-round use.

    • How they work: Heat pumps use electricity to move heat from a cool place to a warm place with the help of refrigerant, simply reversing direction based on your climate needs.

    • Central Air Conditioners vs Heat Pumps: Because they move heat rather than generate it, heat pumps are extremely efficient, eclipsing oil and electric resistance heat sources like furnaces and baseboard heaters by as much as 50%. They also dehumidify better than central air conditioners, offering improved comfort for less energy use in the hot summer months.

    • Climate conundrum: If you live in a moderate environment, heat pumps are great. But for those in colder climes, a heat pump may not keep up with your heating needs due to an actual lack of heat in the air to transfer, meaning you may need a back-up heat source – or a different heat source entirely – for those bitterly cold nights. Choosing based on climate zone is not a one-size-fits-all approach, however, due to advances in technology, so be sure to talk to your heating and cooling professional about heat pump compatibility in your region.

    • Types: Air-to-air, or air source heat pumps are the most common, however some models can use water, gas-fired, and highly-efficient geothermal energy as well. For homes without ducts, ductless heat pumps may also be an option.

Having a hard time clearing things up? The friendly experts at H & H Heating and Air Conditioning are here to help. Contact us to solve your most complicated climate conundrum today.

Digital Marketing for Plumbers

September 12th, 2016

Digital Marketing for Plumbers

In the world of digital marketing for plumbers, there are a lot of things to learn and it is a process. Though it’s ultimately beneficial because with an ongoing effort you can to obtain targeted traffic to your website that converts into sales. From a big picture point of view, there are four major aspects to digital marketing. These main topics are what you will learn about in this article. They are:

  • Technology
  • Content
  • Traffic
  • Conversions

1. Technology Your main digital asset will be your website. You want your website to be fast, secure, and easily customizable. The first step is to purchase your domain from a registrar such as GoDaddy or NameCheap. You will need to host your website and should choose a reputable hosting company such as GoDaddy or TurnkeyInternet. Once you have your domain and hosting you can build your website. Popular hosting companies will have an automatic website installer program called Softaculous or Fantastico. You can use this program to install a free, open source content management system such as WordPress, Joomla, or Drupal to build your website. After using all three it’s safe to say that WordPress is the most user-friendly. It’s also highly customizable and can be made to be fast and secure.

2. Content Once you have your website content management system installed you can begin creating content for your website. Content should be written with two purposes in mind and they are website visitors and search engine bots. Both play an integral role in the success of your business. So it’s important to write well-written content that is valuable to your human audience. And it’s important to optimize this content to be found by search engines bots as well so it gets indexed and found by your prospects when they search for your focus keywords in search engines. In addition, it’s important for prospects and search engines that you have an About, Contact, and Privacy page on your website.

3. Traffic In digital marketing, there are three main ways to gain traffic to your business. In Google specifically, prospects find your business through the local Maps section, organic search listings, and paid ads. You can get in the maps section if you have a physical business address by signing up for a Google My Business account. Organic listings are obtained by optimizing your content to be found by search engines for your target keywords. This is called search engine optimization or SEO. Finally, you can bid against your competition for paid traffic and space for your ad on the first page of Google. This is called pay per click advertising or PPC.

4. Conversions The whole purpose of having a website for business and digital marketing for plumbers is to convert visitors into leads and sales. And since you can only grow what you can measure online it’s important to test and track whichever traffic method you choose. In addition, you only have a few seconds to make a great first impression and keep prospects on your site so make this count by having a fast loading site and using a professional design that suits your brand.

SEO Mistakes That Could Have a Negative Effect On Your Plumbing Marketing Part 1: Ignoring Tags

February 7th, 2016

SEO or search engine optimization is important for your plumbing marketing. If you have been embarking on a plumbing marketing journey, or even if you are just getting started there are a few SEO mistakes that you want to avoid. You may not even be aware that your are making these SEO mistakes. When it comes to success with plumbing marketing knowledge is power, one common SEO mistake that could be negativing effecting your plumbing marketing is ignoring the tags within your web page.

SEO Mistakes

Title Tags, Meta Tags, and Alt Tags are an important part of SEO

Any give web page has 3 tag components: title tags, meta tags, and alt tags. These play a huge role in the success of your SEO. If you are unfamiliar with them, then this is a common SEO mistake that you will want to correct right now. A title tag is a description of the content of a web page. They often appear in the tab of your browser and also in search results as the title for the web page. Title tags are important because it is one of the key things web crawlers analyze when determining the content of a web page. Meta tags provide a brief introduction about the content of a web page. Appearing under the title tag in search results. Like title tags, meta tags are also indexed by web crawlers. Alt tags provide descriptions of an image within the web page. Alt tags are important because images cannot be indexed by web crawlers without text.

Once you are familiar with the difference between title tags, meta tags, and alt tags you can start using them to your advantage. Each web page has title tags, meta tags, and alt tags, so the tags of any given web page should be unique to the content of the web page. Do not include the name of your web page in every tag for every page. This seem redundant and can be viewed as duplicate content. Use the name of your web page on generic pages like your home page, about me section, etc…

As you start creating unique tags for all of your web pages its important to make sure they are relevant. Keywords are great for your tags, however you don’t want to use a bunch of keywords that you want to rank for, but keywords that are relevant to the page. Title tags should be about 60 characters or so, you don’t want it to be too short, but you also don’t want it to be too long that it wont fit. Your meta tags should also use relevant keywords and be about 25 words give or take a little. Alt tags allow you to optimize an image on your web page, that otherwise wouldn’t be looked at. Its important to keep your alt tags relevant tot he page and under 10 words or so.

Making changes to your plumbing marketing tactics is really a matter of changing some of your habits. When you start to leverage the tags within your web pages along with external links you may be surprised by the increase in traffic to your page! Tired of Wasting Marketing Money?

December 29th, 2015

From Our Friends At Smart Service

Tired of Wasting Marketing Money?

Spend any time running an HVAC or plumbing company and you’ll quickly discover the joys and sorrows of marketing. A killer ad campaign or well-positioned company website can net thousands in new and repeat business. Of course, by the same token, marketing dollars poorly spent usually amount to nothing more than a spectacular waste. And here’s the rub; how do you tell the difference?

Smart Service SoftwareSure, you can have your office staff ask “How did you hear about us?” every time they field a phone call, but if they’re recording the answers to this question by hand, it’s a long slog before that data gets compiled in a useful way. First, someone must write down the customer’s answer. Then, when enough answers have been compiled, all of the documentation must be viewed at once to come up with tallies for each source. To truly understand the return on investment from each campaign, the revenue from each customer must also be tabulated. That means math. Lots of math.

At any point in this process, a simple mistake could easily invalidate the results. Of course, this assumes that any of your staff has time to make the necessary calculations in the first place! A smart business needs a better way. A smart business needs software.

Choose the right HVAC software or plumbing software, and the results of your marketing will be recorded automatically. Let’s use the dispatching/scheduling program Smart Service (SmartService.com) as one example. When a call comes in, office staff will ask the customer the same question, “How did you hear about us?” Once they get the answer, they’ll add it to the customer’s profile in the software.

And that’s it! That’s all it takes. From there, everything is automated. As work is performed and money comes it, Smart Service generates reports that show you how much revenue each of your marketing campaigns have generated. You can sit back, relax, and take a peek at your return on investment any time you want.

To learn more about Smart Service and how it can help your HVAC marketing or plumbing marketing, you can visit the Smart Service website or request a free demonstration.
