The Best Ways to Use LinkedIn to Build Your Brand – Guest Blog Post From Chris Woodward

January 20th, 2017

Use LinkedIn to Build Your Personal Brand

Guest Blog Post From Chris Woodward

guest blog post

Chris Woodward, MasterClassMKTG.com

When used effectively, LinkedIn can be a great tool for building a strong network of contacts and staying top of mind as an expert in your field.

LinkedIn is typically the first place that most potential clients will go to find out more about you. Also note that your LinkedIn page is often the first result that will show up in a Google search of your name.

I frequently give workshops on how to get the most out of LinkedIn and thought I would share some valuable tips and strategies:

Optimize your profile

  • Professional Headline: this is visible everywhere your name appears on LinkedIn. So don’t just use your job title. Instead, highlight your expertise. Good example: “Expert family law mediator.”
  • Use a professional photo. Enough said.
  • The Summary section is your elevator speech, your personal introduction. Emphasize the benefits that you deliver, convey your specialty areas, feature the industries and types of clients you serve, and highlight what sets you apart from the competition.

  • Prominently feature up to three blog articles at the top of your Profile.
  • Populate the Skills section with an extensive representation of your skills. Example: “Family law, mediation, divorce, child custody disputes, prenups, asset division.
  • Upload your video to make your profile come alive.

Build your network

  • Build the biggest network you can, but don’t invite complete strangers to connect.
  • Research your contacts’ connections to see whom you might invite to connect

Use for research

  • Be better prepared for meetings by learning more about the participants beforehand.
  • Identify new prospects and study the competition.
  • If there is someone you’d like to meet, search your network for a contact you might have in common to provide a warm introduction.

Share your expertise

  • Once or twice a week provide status updates that demonstrate your professional insight. The ratio should be 5:1 educational vs. promotional updates. You want to be seen as a resource and not a promoter.
  • Expand your reach by joining groups that line up with your professional interests, key referral sources and target clients.

Ask for recommendations

  • Recommendations show that others are endorsing your expertise.

  • The best time to ask for one is immediately after you have delivered great results for a client or power partner.
  • Take advantage of the Endorsements feature. This is an easy way to endorse your contacts for their skills and expertise, and it’s likely that they will return the favor.

This business networking site can serve as an invaluable business tool for professionals. So take the time to flesh out your profile, build your network and get active! If you’re interested in an in-house LinkedIn workshop for your team, please give me a call.

Modern Plumbing’s Influence on Disease Ratification

January 14th, 2017

Today, in this country we are all very fortunate to have indoor plumbing. Modern advances in plumbing technology not only provide us with the comfort of having hot running water but also helps protect our health by safely removing waste water. Before modern

plumbing, diseases ran rampant in many civilizations. Let’s look at how modern plumbing has impacted disease ratification.

Before modern plumbing was developed, indoor facilities were primitive at best. A washstand, chamber pot or commode offered all the modern conveniences at the time. Human waste was thrown out into the streets which lead to extremely unsanitary conditions. In heavily populated urban areas, where rats and other vermin ran rampant, disease spread quickly. The black plague alone took out nearly 200 million people. Proper removal of waste water was instrumental in preventing many diseases.

Dusty Old Thing, https://goo.gl/GRVOXt, 01/14/2017

Cholera was widespread in London during the mid-1800’s claiming 10s of thousands of lives. Medical professionals at the time believed that bad vapors were the leading culprit. It wasn’t until a man named Dr. Snow questioned this widespread thought. Instead, Dr. Snow believed the cholera outbreak was directly related to the water supply. During this time, it was common practice to disperse of waste in large pits known as cesspools or directly into the Thames river. Contamination of clean drinking water was inevitable. This was the basis for Dr. Snow’s theory, and under further investigation he proved that contamination of clean water with waste water the direct reason for the cholera outbreak.

Polio, dysentery, typhoid fever, and many other diseases are spread through unsanitary treatment of wastewater. Proper plumbing infrastructure is needed to prevent cross contamination and to properly dispose of waste water. Clean water for drinking, cooking, cleaning, and bathing is another huge benefit to modern plumbing and helps promote good health and hygiene.

The sad truth is that half of the world’s population is without clean water and proper water sanitation plants. Bringing modern plumbing to under developed nations is crucial for preventing disease. There are many foundations that are dedicated to bringing modern plumbing infrastructure to less fortunate areas. World Plumbing Day is one group working to make a difference. While we always encourage self-improvement at any time of the year, this is the perfect opportunity to start improving your plumbing marketing and that means improving your SEO. One of the easiest and most talked about ways to get your SEO on is through content. Content was a big focus last year and will continue to be a big focus this year. As things get more and more competitive it will be an important and deciphering factor in your engagement and your search ranking. Here are some things you can do to improve your SEO.

#1 Research Based Content

Research based content refers to content that has been created based on what your audience is in to. If you have been creating content for a while you can go back through your analytics reports and determine what type of content your audience prefers based on the number of clicks, views, and bounce rate. What keywords drive the most traffic? This is all in your analytics reports. This information can help you create more content that revolves around what your audience wants. By creating more of the content your audience craves you improve your SEO.

#2 Quality Control

Quality control should always be part of running any type of business. After all you want to make sure that you are offering your customers the very best you can, right? With that being said, quality control also should apply to your plumbing marketing. It’s important to make sure everything works as it’s supposed to. For the purposes of quality control and improving your SEO conduct an internal audit of your plumbing marketing. How quickly does your website load? Does your website convert for mobile users? Is your website easy to navigate? Are all the links on your website correct and operable? These things are important for increasing conversions and to improve your SEO. If the user experience isn’t up to par on your website what is going to compel customers to stick around?

#3 Expand Your Niche

Focusing on a niche is a great way to expand your business and improve your SEO. It gives your SEO focus if you will, allowing you to dominate and drive home a solid topic or niche. This allows you to be specific with your target audience and your keyword marketing. Narrowing things down to specifics can really help increase your conversions because you are more focused on quality leads vs the quantity of leads. Niche marketing also helps build your credibility by establishing your authority on the subject matter.

#4 Local SEO

Plumbing DIY-Can You DIY a Burst Pipe?

January 5th, 2017

A burst pipe can put you in the state of dread thinking that it is the worst thing to happen. The nightmare of burst pipe can cause a lot of mess. However, in some cases you can attempt to DIY or fix it yourself. For extensive damage from a burst pipe you may want to leave it to a professional plumber.

During extreme cold weather when temperatures drop below freezing a burst pipe is quite common. When temperatures reach freezing levels, it’s not so much the pipe that gets affected but more so the water inside. As the water freezes and turns to ice, it starts to expand putting pressure on pipes. This phenomenon causes pipe joints to rupture and can damage the pipe wall.

burst pipe

You don’t want to see your flooring, walls, and personal belongings get wet and damaged because of burst pipe. In the following section of this article, we will see all the methods for burst pipe repairs and how it occurs.

Causes of burst Pipes

Water can expand by 10% when it gets frozen and break the pipe walls. Here are some of the common causes of burst pipes:

  •       Incorrect or inadequate insulation
  •       Compromised insulation
  •       Faulty heating system of the house
  •        Improperly repaired joints
  •        Corrosion on water pipes

What to Do At The First Sign of a Burst Pipe

First things first, don’t panic. If you notice a burst pipe any split-second decisions can cause bigger problems so remain calm.

As a precaution, turn off the main water supply. This will help you alleviate further water damage and allow you to clean up. The scope of burst pipe repairs will depend on location, size and type of pipe rifts.

Fixing the Burst Pipe

When a split happens due to sudden burst, you can use a pipe coupling. A pipe coupling is a short length of pipe with a socket at one or both ends that allows two pipes or tubes to be joined, welded, brazed, or soldered together. Make sure you find the right size of pipe and maintain an inch on both sides of the split. This will help insure the new piece will fit perfectly into the slot. A hacksaw can be used to order remove the damaged piece of pipe. Once you have placed the pipe piece successfully into the slot, tighten it and check if it functions normally when you turn the water back on.

Fixing a Pinhole Leak

Prior to copper pipes, galvanized steel pipes were used in most buildings. If you are live in an older home there is a good chance you have galvanized steel pipes. The problem with galvanized steel pipes is they are prone to burst pipecorrosion, which can cause bursts.

Turn off the water supply, access the damage, and head to your nearest plumbing hardware shop where you can obtain a stainless-steel pipe repair clamp. Remove all the unwanted rust around the pinhole. Then slip the clamp onto the pipe and seal it. Tighten the clamp with a bolt before turning on the water to insure the leak is properly fixed.

Preventive Care for Burst Pipes

Preventive maintenance can help you avoid the disaster of an unpredictable burst pipe. If you are living in an area prone to freezing temperatures, protect your homes plumbing from the elements. Shield the entry points for your pipes and check the weather stripping on doors and windows for enhanced insulation.

Look for suitable and stronger insulation materials that can protect any exposed pipes as well as your water heater. These preventive measures can help protect your home from the damage caused by a burst pipe.

For best results always call a professional plumber to fix a burst pipe. A burst pipe can be a tedious job, and one that should be done right the first time.

Tips for Creating More Compelling Content

January 2nd, 2017

Content has been front and center in the digital marketing world for some time. And with good reason. Content is a great way to utilize keywords you want to rank for without getting penalized by Google, content generates a buzz about your brand, content gets people engaged with your brand, and content helps build your credibility. There are many reasons why you should embark on a content strategy for your plumbing marketing campaign. Content adds value. Moving forward, as there is even more of an emphasis on compelling content how will you stand out from the crowd? Here are some tips for creating more compelling content.

#1 Headlines Matter

One of the most compelling parts of a good piece of content is the headline. With a limited amount of characters, you must effectively convey what your content is about and peak the interest of your reader so that they will want to learn more,

compelling content

Harrison Amy Copywriting, https://goo.gl/mN14tA, 01/02/2017

click, and share. These days with so much fluff out there filling our streams on social media, many of us simply read the headline, like or share and move on without even reading the article. With this mentality, how your headline reads is crucial. Think of a headline as a call to action. Create a sense of urgency, curate curiosity, and offer value.

#2 Research Your Audience

compelling content

Force Four Entertainment, https://goo.gl/S92Dgl, 01/02/2017

Compelling content should be directed towards a well-researched crowd. What makes them tick? What are they interested in? What types of articles do they like the most? And more importantly where do they spend most of their time online? You can get a lot of this information right from your analytics. With this information in hand you can create more compelling content that your audience is interested in and promote it where they are most likely to be. Consider the demographics of your target audience. Are they more likely to be on Facebook? How about Twitter? Making sure your content is being seen by the right audience is just as important and creating good quality content.

#3 Images Matter

The images you use matter when creating compelling content. Images can help support your topic and help add pleasing visual stimulation that breaks up the monotony of words. However, the images you choose are important. Make sure they support your topic, make sure you site if you are using someone else’s images, and make sure they are sized appropriately. Images that are too large can through off the balance of your page, don’t convert as well for mobile users, and can delay page loading time; which can increase your bounce rate significantly.

With less than a week until we usher in the New Year it is never too late to start thinking about your digital marketing plan for next year. This year there was a huge focus on content and mobile friendliness.  Moving forward into 2017 it will be important to focus on some other areas as well. Here are some digital marketing trends to incorporate into your plumbing marketing plan for 2017.

1)     Natural Marketing Approach

The “natural” look is in, and not just with fashion and cosmetics. In 2017 there will be more of a demand for a natural approach to online marketing. With so much noise on the internet these days, marketers are being forced

digital marketing strategy

Marketing Tech Blog, https://goo.gl/ZUEePm, 12/28/2016

to take a more stealth approach when it comes to getting their message across. Natural marketing, also known as native marketing. Native marketing utilizes a sneakier approach by the way of an advertorial, or educational content. This way you are offering useful content to the reader, while subjectively marketing your business.

2)     Live Video Streaming

Live video streaming made its debut this year on social media giant Facebook. Next year you can expect it to take off, as consumers are starting to demand more live content. 2017 will present an excellent opportunity to start using live video streaming for your plumbing marketing.  How can you incorporate live video streaming into your plumbing marketing? The same way use video for your plumbing marketing. How to videos, what not to do videos, plumbing tutorials, live streams on products, tools, or technology. There are a lot of opportunities where you can incorporate live video streaming into your plumbing marketing.

3)     Niche Market Targeting

As more and more business take to the internet trying to get a piece of the pie, niche marketing targeting is becoming more and more of a necessity in order to stand out and also compete. This is especially true for small business trying to compete with larger corporations with and inflated marketing budget. Niche marketing targeting is a great way to increase conversions, but on a smaller more quality scale. Niche marketing will focus more on quality vs. quantity.

Social media has become and endless see of content from all kinds of brands. With so much going on in our social media streams it’s hard to pay attention to all of it. A lot of content ends up getting lost in a sea of white noise. People skim over content, read the headlines and get the gist of what the articles is about without having to read the whole thing. What this means for your content strategy in 2017 is more dense, eye catching headlines and sub-headlines, and getting the most out of every word.

3 Important Things to Stay On Top of Your SEO

Refocus Your Content Strategy for Next Year

December 23rd, 2016

content strategyContent has been a big focus in your plumbing marketing over the last year. Without a doubt, content will continue to dominate when it comes to generating results with your plumbing marketing. With the new year right around the corner it’s a good idea to start gathering your thoughts and getting organized. Reworking your plumbing marketing plan is always a good idea at the beginning of the year. That also includes reworking your content strategy, because guess what? Content isn’t going anywhere. If anything, there will be even more of a focus on content.  Here are some tips on how to refocus your content strategy for next year.

 Find Out What Works

When working on your content strategy for next year it’s important to see what has been working. Look at your analytics report to find out:

  • What topics are your readers interested in?
  • What topics do you get the most reaction to?
  • What blogs generate the most traffic and clicks?

Knowing what your audience is in to will help you create more of the same type content, that will hopefully boost engagement, drive more traffic, create more clicks, and increase conversions.

Keyword Research

Think about the keywords your ranked for this year. Keywords and SEO go hand in hand with your content strategy. Performing a little keyword research at least once a year is proactive in staying on top of your plumbing marketing. Utilize the

content strategy

Business Profit Masters, https://goo.gl/6s83d6, 12/22/2016

free keywords research tool in Google AdWords and check out Google Insights. Consider the following:

  • What keywords delivered results?
  • Are some of your keywords becoming more or less competitive?
  • Do you need to drop some keywords?
  • Are there any new keywords you would like to rank for?

Promotion

Create fresh content is only part of a strong content strategy. The next part is promotion. Where have you been promoting your content? You content should be shared as frequently as possible and across all of your social media channels and social bookmarking sites. Social media and content share a mutually beneficial relationship. Social media thrives on good quality content and content needs a platform to gain exposure. You also have the option of “boosting” posts to gain even more exposure. Determine what you want to accomplish with your content and then decide if you want to fit this into your plumbing marketing budget.

Frequency

To create a better content strategy for next year its important to take a look at the frequency that you are updating your content. As general rule of thumb we suggest updating your blog at least once a week, and posting update at least 3-4 times a week if not more. If you could maintain this schedule this year, then perhaps it’s time to increase your frequency. Did the traffic you received meet your expectations based on the frequency you updated your content? If not, or if you are ready to take things to the next level then you may want to consider altering the frequency that you update your content.
