Simple Steps to Mastering Twitter for Your Plumbing Marketing Part 1

July 25th, 2016

Twitter has a lot to offer when it comes to your plumbing marketing. Its one of the most widely used social media sites, with 310 million active users this year. That’s a lot of exposure that you can’t afford to miss for your plumbing marketing. For some Twitter can be a little twitter for plumbing marketingdaunting to understand especially with all the Twitter jargon (whats a hashtag?) But once you get the hang of it Twitter can actually be pretty easy to understand and use for your plumbing marketing. Here we bring you simple steps for using Twitter for plumbing marketing.

#1 First things first, when using twitter for plumbing marketing you need to have a strategy. Having a plan will help you stay organized and help you better understand the process. Sit down and ask yourself the following questions:

  • What do you want to accomplish using Twitter for plumbing marketing?
  • Who are you hoping to reach using Twitter for plumbing marketing?
  • What type of content are you going to contribute?
  • How are you going to sell your business using Twitter for plumbing marketing?
  • What call to action are you going to use to get traffic to your website from Twitter?
  • How are you going to add value?

Establishing these things will help you gain a better understanding of how to use Twitter for plumbing marketing and allow you to be more effective.

#2 Next you need to build your profile. Take advantage of the space provided to write a brief about section using some strategically placed keywords, remember you have limited space so keep it short and sweet. Also be sure to include a link back to your website and images. Images are really important when building a strong Twitter profile. Decide on a good professional profile picture and a good eye catching cover photo.

#3 Once you have created your profile you can lean the basics. Twitter thrives on content with roughly 6 thousand tweets being sent out every second, that amount to around 500 million tweets per day. That’s a lot of content, so in order to remain competitive and relevant on Twitter you need to participate by Tweeting. Tweeting is like a status update but on Twitter. Its limited to 140 characters or less. Try to update your Twitter feed several times a day, you can do this manually or your can use an outside social media dashboard like Hootsuite to pre-schedule your Tweets. Some other basic Twitter terms you need to be familiar with are:

  • Retweet – This is where you share another users status or tweet with your audience. Getting retweeted is good for your visibility. Retweeting other users tweets is also a good way to get retweeted yourself as the user is more likely to return the favor.
  • Mention – A mention is pretty much what its sounds like and involves one Twitter user “mentioning” another Twitter user. This is represented by using the @ symbol in from of another users username in a Tweet. For example if you wanted to mention Grow Plumbing you would include @growplumbing in your Tweet.
  • Hashtag (#) – You hear about hashtags everywhere these days especially after other social media sites like Facebook and Instagram incorporated them as well. A hashtag is a way to join in a conversation with other users, who you don’t necessarily have to be affiliated with. You do this by including the hashtag symbol #. For example if you wanted to join in a conversation stream about #plumbingmarketing, you could include that hashtag in your Tweet and automatically populate in the #plumbingmarketing stream. This is an easy way to gain exposure from other users who are utilizing the same hashtag. Anyone can create a hashtag, anyone can utilize a hashtag. Of course certain terms will be wildly popular and recognized for example #yolo, while others may not gain much traction at all.

That being said not all social media platforms are the same. For sites like LinkedIn and Google + we recommend using a professional head shot for your profile picture and other pictures like your logo and work you have done for subsequent pictures. For sites like Twitter and your Facebook business page you can use your logo if you like since it is a page for your business, however keep in mind that while it is a page for your business people like to see who is on the other side of things. Content distribution is another great aspect of using social media for plumbing marketing. While you may not think about it at the time, your blog is as much of part of your brand as anything else. Its dynamic and helps incorporate the philosophies of your brand. What you are about and what you offer to your clients. Generating blogs, videos, pictures, infographics can all help strengthen your brand and improve engagement with your fan/followers/connections. For branding purposes you can incorporate your logo or slogan into your content. Or maybe utilize a weekly theme. For example perhaps once a week you do a plumbing how to video or blog. Over time this will be incorporated into your brand and people will start to associate more with your brand.

strengthen your brand with social media

Promoting Your Niche is also a way you can strengthen your brand with social media. If you specialize in green plumbing for example you can incorporate that into your posts.
